This was part of a much
larger project, Open Air, that worked with primary schools in Thurrock to use arts practitioners
and arts activity to help deliver different areas of the curriculum, and to
encourage children, parents and teachers to rediscover Thurrock’s open spaces.
Open Air worked with
Thameside Infants School, Corringham Primary School, Stanford-le-Hope Junior
School and Warren Primary School on a range of projects over the spring and
early summer of 2004. Arts Workshops Outline Theme: Environment Four large sculpture frames, designed by young people, will be completed
and sited in the gorge. Each of the large sculptures will contain smaller
sculptures made during the workshop sessions.
Design shapes for big sculpture structures using display boards with
images of wildlife and the group’s own ideas as starting points.
Design ideas for small sculptures to put inside big frames. Show a couple
of examples of previously made sculptures using the material available.
Start making sculptures from wire, “Bostik” glue, cable ties, bamboo and recycled materials, with some use of glue gun.
